If you’re over 60 and ready to explore the scenic beauty and vibrant culture of Colorado’s capital, Denver offers so much to enjoy, from sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains to charming local eateries that will tempt your taste buds. With comfortable walking shoes and a spirit of adventure, you can experience two fabulous days in Denver filled with discovery, flavor, and, we promise, some unforgettable moments.
Day One:
Exploring the Botanic Gardens

Morning: A Stroll Through the Denver Botanic Gardens
Start your day with a peaceful walk through the Denver Botanic Gardens. You’ll find yourself surrounded by tulips, roses, and plants from all over the world. The paths are easy to follow, and it feels good to move at your own pace. Take a moment to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the colors around you. Bring your camera because you’re going to want to capture the blooms indoors and outside. The Japanese Gardens and Chihuly art are our favorite spots!
2. Lunch: Tastes of the Mile High City

After your morning at the gardens, make your way to Union Station. It’s a historic spot that now feels like the heart of downtown with plenty of places to eat both inside and on the blocks surrounding it. You can sit down for a hearty sandwich or enjoy something sweet from one of the bakeries. If you’re in the mood for a relaxed meal, stop by Ultreia. It’s known for breakfast but the lunch is just as good and always hits the spot. After lunch hop on a Discover Denver Bus Tour, indeed it is a great way to wrap up lunch to get some history of Denver.
3. Afternoon: Denver Art Museum

After lunch, spend some time at the Denver Art Museum. It’s a place where you can see the city’s culture come alive through paintings, sculptures, and exhibits ranging from contemporary works to Native American history. Walk at your own pace to take in all the details. The building itself is worth admiring and is a work of art and the collections always give you something new to think about (and talk about later over dinner!).
4. Evening: Dinner and Live Music

As the sun sets, head into the Lodo District for dinner. The area is full of places that serve good food and each spot has its own character. Anyone would like Bistro Vendôme because the dishes are fresh and made with care. It feels good to sit down there after a day of walking.
When you’re ready for music, make your way to the Bluebird Theater. It’s one of those places where the atmosphere pulls you in and the sound fills the room. Spending the evening with live music is a perfect way to end your first day in Denver.
Day Two:
1. Nature and Local Culture

Morning: A trip to the foothills. Start your second day with a good breakfast, then head out to Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. It’s only about 20-30 minutes from Denver, depending on traffic, but you'll feel far away from the big city. The red rock formations are striking and the trails give you plenty of space to move at your own pace. The Trading Post Trail is gentle and offers lovely views without being too much work. Take your time, enjoy the scenery, and let the quiet of the mountains set the tone for the day.
2. Boulder City Excursion

After enjoying the quiet of Red Rocks, take the short drive to Boulder. The town has a welcoming feel and it’s easy to settle in. Pearl Street Mall is lively and full of places to eat, with plenty of local flavors to choose from. Oak at Fourteenth a stylish Pearl Street restaurant serving seasonal, wood-fired American cuisine in a friendly, professional atmosphere. River and Woods it's cozy setting and relaxed pace make it ideal for an easy, conversation-friendly meal.
3. Afternoon: Stroll and Shop

After lunch, take a slow walk along Pearl Street. The area has a mix of small shops and boutiques that feel welcoming and full of character. You’ll also often see street performers adding to the lively atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you can wander without hurry, enjoy the sights, and let the local culture sink in as you move along.
8. Goodbye, Denver

On your last night, come back into Denver and enjoy a farewell dinner at a food truck spot with a view. Civic Center Eats is a good choice because you can watch the sunset over the city. It feels like the right way to close out your trip.
Two days here give you a mix of gardens, mountains, and city life, and each moment leaves its own memory. Denver's really best enjoyed at a steady pace, so let yourself take it all in. Pack your bags, share the experience with your travel companions, and carry home the feeling (and hopefully some great pics) of our beautiful Mile High City.
