When the weather chills, don't miss the 5 Best Things to Do in Denver in the Winter

If you're considering a winter vacation to Denver or our nearby mountains and ski resorts, you already know that the Mile High City is renowned for its breathtaking scenery and lively culture, but winter's snowy surroundings and warm ambiance give it an added layer of beauty. These are the top five things to do in Denver in the winter and since typically our winter weather in Denver is quite mild even when there's snow on the ground thanks to our 300+ days of sunshine, there's both indoor and outdoor options for you to dive into.
1. Hit the Slopes at Nearby Ski Resorts

Being close to some amazing ski resorts is one of the best things about visiting Denver in the winter. Locations like Breckenridge, Keystone, and Vail (and many more!) are only a short drive away (1-2 hours). These resorts offer something for everyone, regardless of experience level. The powder is legendary, so plan on spending a day or two skiing or snowboarding. (TIP: Try snowshoeing or cross country skiing, followed by drinking hot cocoa by the fire, if you're not a skier or boarder - it's just as fun.)

2. Explore the Denver Botanic Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens are an absolute gold mine to get some great pics throughout the year, but in the winter, the gardens transform into a winter wonderland. Ice sculptures, glittering lights, and serene snow-lined walkways completely enchant this place. As you stroll through the gardens in the evening with hot chocolate in hand, you'll have the impression that you're in your own miniature winter fairy tale. Don't miss their special seasonal events; it's a great way to enjoy the beauty of nature in the winter, but they sell out well in advance, so book early here.
3. Visit the Denver Art Museum (DAM)

It's always a good idea to go inside to a cozy and welcoming place when the weather's colder, and immersive art exhibits can be found at the Denver Art Museum throughout the winter months. It's a worthwhile way to spend a morning or afternoon because of its breathtaking architecture and varied art collections spread over 10 floors and three buildings and covering art from across almost all countries of the world. As you wander through displays of Native American and modern art, you'll be blown away by the sheer diversity in art pieces. Additionally, special winter events are frequently held at the museum. 4. Experience Winter Wonderland at the Downtown Denver Rink

The Downtown Denver Ice Skating Rink at Skyline Park is a must-see wintertime attraction, whether you lace up some skates or just pop by for a hot chocolate and some great people watching, as it really is the ideal setting for ice skating surrounded by the festive holiday atmosphere and the sparkling city lights. After you glide around the rink a few times, don't forget to warm up with some of the great food from local vendors or at one of the many restaurants within a block of the rink. It's a picture-perfect daytime or evening activity.
5. Enjoy Craft Beer and our Cozy Breweries

Winter in Denver is no exception to the city's renowned craft beer scene. After a day of icy fun, nothing compares to savoring a warm meal and a beer that was made here in the Mile High City. Every one of the city's numerous breweries has a warm, welcoming ambiance that screams winter comfort, so make it a point to visit a few, as they all also offer special seasonal brews.
